Bond, Books, & Banter: Upper School Readers Celebrate Literature in Style

On Friday, Dec. 5, a group of the Upper School’s most voracious readers enjoyed a celebration of all things literary.

Hosted by the Towers Library staff and the Library Advisory Council, participants kicked off the event with a James Bond-themed dinner in Cole Hall. A banquet-style head table was decorated to the theme, and Casino Royale was playing on the big screens while the boys were treated to a fabulous meal that featured roast beef, a green mocktini drink, and tuxedo cake for dessert.

After dinner, they returned to Towers Library to share some reading time, along with a fun and lively literature trivia contest. Participants lasted until 10:30 p.m., fueled by an abundance of snacks and some great books, all while comfortably seated around the library’s fireplace.

Celebrating the readers in our community is an important part of maintaining a focus on literacy at the forefront of the education we offer at SAC. One of the reasons boys often stop reading after their Middle School years is that they don’t find it social enough, and they gravitate toward other endeavours where they can spend meaningful time with friends. Making reading more social is one of the many ways the Towers Library staff is addressing the decline in reading among boys in their high school years.
