Boarding

Welcome to the Andrean boarding experience! It's not just a place to stay - it's a dynamic and enriching adventure that will transform your life. Get ready to forge powerful friendships that will last a lifetime, while reaping the rewards of studying and playing hard.

At St. Andrew's, we go beyond academics. Our Boarding program is designed to cultivate essential life skills such as resiliency and time management, ensuring you're prepared for whatever comes your way. With a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, you'll have the chance to explore and unleash your full potential.

Our exceptional boarding facilities include three Upper School boarding houses and one Middle School/Grade 9 house. With Heads of House, Boarding Dons, duty teachers, House Captains, and dedicated staff, boarding life is carefully monitored and supported, to create a safe, positive, and nurturing environment that feels like home.

Our boarding program offers a unique academic support system that sets us apart. Every night, during our mandatory study prep, students have access to specialized academic supports such as the Math Den and English Nook. Students are encouraged to engage in student-led peer groups (SLG) to unlock their full academic potential.

When you decide to join our Boarding program, you’re embarking on a transformative journey filled with excitement, growth, and endless opportunities.

Boarding Life Curriculum

More than just a place to sleep, work, and play, our carefully planned Boarding Life program and curriculum are exciting and dynamic and include an overall character-building program to help prepare students for university and beyond.

Through a series of leadership and club activities, sports, arts, outreach, fun events, and the Complete Weekend program, boarders enjoy a unique camaraderie and develop lifelong memories and lasting friendships.

Use of Technology

As a key component of our instruction, staff monitors and teaches responsible use of technology by ensuring that students unplug so they can make better use of their time, improve their study habits, and get a better night’s sleep. All students lock up their electronic devices in electronic lock-up cubbies before lights out.

The Complete Weekend Program

During the weekend, SAC offers an exciting array of activities to our students. From excursions to Niagara Falls and Mont-Tremblant to NBA basketball games and trips to Ripley’s Aquarium, there is something for everyone. Students also have access to the SAC shuttle to run errands to the local mall, supermarket, and movie theatre. An example of our programming can be found here.

Food, Glorious Food!

Nurturing young minds requires nutrition for the body. Food is an essential part of the St. Andrew’s experience. Whether you are a boarding or day student, delicious and nutritious meals complement the academic day with an opportunity to share a meal with friends.

With 1,400 meals made every day, our mandate and commitment are to ensure that good nutrition is an essential part of school life while promoting the health and well-being of the students and fostering a lifetime of good eating habits. To do this, the team is made up of experienced chefs and culinary experts passionate about delivering healthy and appealing meals to young palates. Menus are carefully crafted to cater to varying tastes, dietary preferences, and restrictions, ensuring students eat their best.

Variety is the spice of life, so we source high-quality ingredients and incorporate a diverse range of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins into our menus. Menus offer three protein choices and a vegetarian option, accompanied by wholesome starches and an assortment of fresh vegetables. Additionally, our salad and sandwich bars provide extra options, along with two homemade soups. We also introduce exciting theme meals and special chef presentations, such as the British Invasion, Hawaiian, Chinese New Year’s Celebration, Italian, French, and many more. We always welcome suggestions and ideas from our community.

At St. Andrew’s, we prioritize using fresh and local products whenever possible. We take great care in sourcing ingredients from nearby suppliers, supporting our local community and reducing our carbon footprint. Our commitment to sustainability extends to growing herbs and greens on-site, enhancing the flavours of our dishes.

We understand that each student is unique, and we are dedicated to accommodating special diets and allergies on an individual basis. Our team works closely with students, parents, and staff to ensure everyone enjoys their meals safely and with peace of mind. Plus, we have chocolate milk at the ready – a student favourite!

But don’t take our word for it; check out a sample week-long menu, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the occasional dessert.

Bon appétit!
We are committed to building a sense of belonging in our community.
By dedicating ourselves to creating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment, we will foster and accept the unique individuality of each of our citizens, ensuring all members feel valued and respected.
