Season Preview: 2022 Youth Movement Set To Make A Splash

The First Soccer Team is back on the pitch, and a big group of local and international new faces are eager to make an immediate impact.

On Sept. 10, SAC hosted a pre-season jamboree to get their first taste of match action before heading south of the border for a pair of games this weekend.

Also in the middle, box-to-box midfielder Issa Abdu ’24 of Uganda is back for his second season and has come into camp with added attacking tools that he’s keen to put to work.

Setting their sights on clean sheets is starting junior goalkeeper Gaven Toor ’24, and a defending core that includes Carter Leung ’23Andreas Petrozza ’23, and new additions Kishon Kengatharan ’25, Oman’s Faris Al-Hinai ’25, and left-footer Sebastian Madeiros ’25 of Bermuda.

Returnees expecting to take the next step in 2022 include midfielders Oliver Poulos ’25 and Jaxon Cover ’25, winger Marcus Marek Tortorella ’23 and hold-up striker Matvey Semochkin ’25 of Russia.

Six more new first-teamers will also be looking to add to the attack including local forwards Grayson Coburn ’24Akhilesh Ragavan ’25, and Adam Popatia ’26. From abroad, big things are expected of Bermuda youth international winger Aidan Peets ’24, Jamaican and Spanish-academy trained forward Pax Cortizas ’26, and crafty midfielder Fede Escobar Vargas ’27 of Mexico.

And, it all gets started this weekend for St. Andrew’s College Soccer when they travel to Buffalo, New York on Saturday to take on Nichols School, followed by a Sunday afternoon tussle with St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute.
