It was an excellent day for St. Andrew's musicians at MusicFest Regionals this week in Markham, as all three bands brought home coveted hardware.
The Wind Ensemble won the top prize earning gold and an invitation to MusicFest Nationals in Calgary.
“Their performance was mature, exciting, and inspiring for everyone that heard them play,” said Sandi Chasson, Director of Music. “There was a true sense of joy in their playing. I am extremely proud of their teamwork to produce such phenomenal music!”
The Symphonic Band, led by music teacher, Eric McMillan, received a combined gold and silver adjudication to earn Silver Plus. This year, the band moved up a performance level competing at B300. They also qualified to represent SAC at nationals this May.
“I am proud of all the hard work the boys put in since the beginning of the year,” said Eric. “This includes evening rehearsals every Monday night, and countless hours of personal practice.”
The Middle School Band also earned a Silver Plus award with Richard Yang, Grade 8, winning the Leadership Award.
“I am extremely proud of the students and pleased with their performance,” said John Richardson, Director of Middle School Bands. “It was also great to have so many parents watching and cheering us on.”
SAC’s Music Department has enjoyed incredible success in this competition over the past 15 years, qualifying for nationals every year. In the years they chose to attend national, they received the highest gold standing.
