1st Basketball Saints shine on Spirit Night

Thanks to the Athletic Council, the Andrean Pep Band, and SAC students, the Bedard gym was an amazing venue for basketball on Thursday night!

The Saints were pumped after their individual player intros, the crowd provided a huge boost, and the pep band had the gym rocking up to the rafters all game long!
In the opening quarter, the Saints came out flying and pushed the ball very well in transition. Nate Falconi picked up steals and led the break, while Oliver Ingram did a great job attacking gaps and finishing at the basket. The Saints slid their feet and kept opponent Sir William Mulock out of the paint.
Offensively, the Saints moved the ball well and made quick decisions. Bryce Neil used the high screen and roll to get to the basket, while Robbie MacEachern was much more decisive than in previous games, showcasing his perimeter shot and ability to drive baseline. Oruese Erivwo and Marcus McGowan controlled the boards and kept Mulock's bigs off the glass. At the half, the Saints enjoyed a comfortable 38-22 lead.
Unfortunately, the Saints got a little too comfortable to start the second half. Suddenly, Mulock was able to drive between two Saint defenders and finish at the rim. They also earned offensive rebounds, and kicked back out to open shooters who knocked down shots. At the same time, the Saints became tentative on offence - the ball stopped moving and screens were limited. Midway through the fourth quarter, Mulock had pulled within three points.
Down the stretch, AJ Nichols showed tremendous heart and hustle as he pursued offensive rebounds and earned himself trips to the line. Kyle Murphy and Bryce Neil stayed composed under pressure, and Robbie MacEachern sealed the game with two big free throws with 10 seconds remaining.
It was a great team effort for the Saints, as all members of the team contributed, showing much more grit and intensity than in their previous game. It looks like they are back on track!
