St. Andrew’s dominates CISMF roster

On April 5, Roy Thomson Hall will resonate with the sound of nearly 1,500 talented students and music educators from 48 Cis Ontario schools.
The 36th staging of the Conference of Independent Schools Music Festival (CISMF) will take the stage at RTH with SAC’s Head of Music, Sandi Chasson, at the helm for another year.
The participating musicians must first audition for a position in one of the music ensembles or choirs. This year, Ms Chasson was proud to announce SAC will have 50 boys taking part in this non-competitive celebration of music, which she notes is the highest number of musicians from participating schools. She served on the 25-member audition committee that also included SAC teachers Eric McMillan, Garry Page, and John Richardson.
“St. Andrew’s will be well-represented at the CISMF. We will have an extremely strong presence,” Ms Chasson said.
In addition to her delight at how many SAC musicians were successful as securing spots at the music festival, Ms Chasson had more good news to share.
The CIS Ontario schools are now 'official partners' of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. At our rehearsals in February and April, members of the TSO will be at SAC to sit in our rehearsals and run masterclasses with our students,” she said.
“As the coordinator of CISMF, I could not be more pleased with this collaboration and hope this will begin to foster a reciprocal relationship with the TSO.”
As well, the Toronto Symphony Volunteer Committee (TSVC) offered its congratulations to the student musicians who take part in this music festival.
The TSVC is committed to contributing to the financial support of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and to expanding awareness of its musical and educational programs. The committee assists the TSO with community engagement programs and supports tuition-free enrolment for all Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra members.
Stay tuned for more CISMF news closer to the festival. Students will be working on cover concepts for the program as well, under the direction of Head of Art, Stephen Kimmerer, who is in charge of designing the program.
