Tie-breaker tips Open Curling game to TFS
An afternoon game on Tuesday, February 5 demonstrated that adjusting game-play to ice conditions is an important skill in curling.
The Curling Saints started off well. Good guards and draws by lead Eddie Hao and second Colby Jackson, sweeping and strategic suggestions by Vice Nick Cruickshanks, and end-saving take outs by Skip Nova Schmidt saw SAC slowly pull ahead 3-0 by half-time.
However, the curlers from Toronto French School were becoming familiar with the ice and found the weight and the aim to tie the game with three points in the fourth end. A lucky ricocheting hammer rock saved the fifth end for the Saints despite earlier missed opportunities. TFS's growing comfort with the ice and some wide throws by SAC contributed to the game ending in a 4-4 tie. Two rounds of tie-breaking draws to the button by the respective skips ended in favour of TFS.
The SAC Open Team hits the sheets again on Monday, February 11 at Bradford Community Centre against Havergal College.
