Robotic Team advances to semis in weekend tourney

The Middle School Robotics team has been working diligently to prepare for the FIRST Lego League (FFL) qualifying tournament in hopes of moving forward to the provincial championships.
The seven-member team was able to practice their presentation skills and test their robot's programming at a practice tournament this past weekend at Rick Hansen Secondary School in Mississauga.
The boys spent most of the morning fine-tuning their robot design and programming before heading into their first presentation - the research project. The boys did a great job for their first run through talking about an innovative composting toilet system to reduce water usage in residential homes.
Immediately following, the boys were judged on a collaborative team challenge and their robot design. They were pleasantly surprised with their robot's performance, advancing to the semi-final playoff round where they were defeated.
It was a terrific learning experience to interact with other FLL teams, and identify areas for improvement over the next couple of weeks.
The FLL qualifying tournament takes place Dec. 2 at St. Roberts Catholic High School in Thornhill. Good luck to Haadi Khan, Conor Stewart, William Zhang, Flynn Ma, Roy Xia, Cevin Wei, and Matthew Sakhno.
Last year, the SAC Robotics team advanced to the Provincial Championships where they finished 18th.
