Strong effort from U16 Football in CISAA championship
The U16 Football Saints travelled down to St. Michael’s College (SMC) on Thursday to face the Kerry Blues in the CISAA championship. It’s never easy to face SMC at the U16 level, as they are big and highly athletic. Despite the enormous challenge, the Saints held tough and battled right to the end, losing a close 10-0 final.
The Saints defence left it all on the field, generating stop after stop, playing particularly tough and physical against the run. The entire unit deserves immense credit for staying committed to their assignments and rallying to the football.
On offence, the shutout does not indicate the flow of the game. Several big plays led to multiple possessions penetrating into the SMC red zone, but unfortunately that one key play to find the end zone never materialized.
Coach LaForge was home sick battling a brutal flu bug, and unable to lead his troops. It was an honour for myself and coach Shrimpton to fill-in and support the highly dedicated and committed U16 coaching staff. The boys should be immensely proud of their efforts today. Roll Saints!
