It didn’t take much time at all for 2017 grad Quinton Cochran to jump straight into his music career.
The song he wrote and recorded, In Your Eyes, was released as his debut single in early September. “It was a huge stepping stone for me. I gained an enormous amount of positive feedback,” Quinton says.
“The inspiration behind In Your Eyes came from writing my upcoming EP and trying to discover my sound as a new artist. As soon as I started on the song I knew it was exactly what I had been looking for.”
He describes his musical style as pop, mixed with influences from all genres. “My biggest musical influence has always been Ed Sheeran. He was definitely one of the biggest reasons I learned to play guitar.”
Quinton is a well-rounded musical artist: he plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, and piano. “I was in a band once for a relatively short period of time with a couple friends and my younger brother, Sterling ’19; however, I have always been more of a solo artist,” he says.
Quinton has opted to pursue his passion this year after deferring his acceptance to Queen’s University until at least next fall. So far, so good: in addition to the release of his debut single, he placed in the GTA Top 10 in the CBC Searchlight competition, was a featured artist at Youth Day at Yonge and Dundas Square in Toronto in the summer, and was appointed a Global Ambassador for Youth for his work with the Youth Day Organization.
Gigs are planned this month in Niagara, Windsor, and Montreal, and he is focused on writing and recording some new tunes.
