Whether it’s your first or your 50th, Homecoming is a day to connect with students, parents, Old Boys and Andreans of every description.
It’s a St. Andrew’s tradition dating back to 1926 when the College moved to Aurora. The 2017 Homecoming is slated for Saturday, Sept. 30 starting at 9 a.m.
There is something planned to please all members of the Andrean community, from youngsters to Old Boys.
For the sports fans, there will be soccer, volleyball, and football games to enjoy, with our Saints vying against rival Upper Canada College. The first game kicks off at 9 a.m. on Yuill Field; the final game is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
The full sports schedule
is online. Andreans are urged to get in the spirit by dressing in red and white. You can also view Quad activities and games, as well as Marketplace vendors. A school map can be found here.
The Quad will be the place for families with young children from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be games, crafts, face painting, and SAC tattoos. Check out the brand new inflatables for all ages: hold on tight to the mechanical bull; battle an opponent in the Sumo Suit Wrestling ring; play Whack-A-Mole; try your luck with the Wrecking Ball; make your way through the Extreme Vertical Rush Obstacle Course; and take a trip down the Pirate Slide.
If you’re in the shopping mood, head over to the Vendors’ Marketplace inside Staunton Gallery, where you’ll find exciting new vendors alongside some favourite booths from past years. Be on the lookout for jewelry, clothing, home décor, and plenty more. New this year is a mobile clothing boutique that will set up on the Quad.
The Campus Shop will also open its doors for people wanting the latest in SAC wear and memorabilia.
And don’t forget the food! The Parents Guild is hosting its popular Bake Sale offering a tantalizing variety of homemade goodies and other treats. Head over to the tent on the Quad. All proceeds from this sale go the SAC’s Outreach Committee in support of local charities.
A barbecue lunch will be served up for students and visiting athletes in the Amphitheatre from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Old Boys and parents can fill their plates at the complimentary buffet lunch in Cole Hall from noon until 2:00 p.m.
To wind things up is the Homecoming Dance for students in grades 9-12 from 8 to 11 p.m. in Wirth Theatre.
Old Boys will be meeting and greeting at the Class Reunion Dinners on the Friday before Homecoming in Cole Hall. Alumni from the classes of 1977 to 2012 (and every five years in between) have been invited to travel back to SAC to connect with classmates and check out the changes on campus.
