Pipes, pomp, and pageantry

Like spotting the first blooms of spring, seeing Cadet training groups around campus is a sure sign three annual traditions will soon be upon us.

Annual Church Parade: Sun., April 23
The Cadet Corps will conduct its Annual Church Parade and Divine Service at Trinity Anglican Church in Aurora on Sunday, April 23. This year’s service will again include an affirmation of the Freedom of the Town by Mayor Geoff Dawe, first presented to the Corps in 2005 at the Corps’ 100th anniversary. There will also be a presentation by guest speaker Phil Whitfield, Class of 2009.

Spectators are invited to the Aurora Town Park to listen to the Wind Ensemble perform between 12:15 and 1:15 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., the Cadet Corps will march to Trinity Anglican Church for a one-hour service.  At the service’s conclusion, the Corps will parade back to the Town Park with flags flying and Pipes & Drums a blazing. The circuitous route will be via Church, Yonge, Wellington, and Wells Streets. Back at the park, the Pipes & Drums will perform and light refreshments will be available for guests.

Annual Headmaster's Parade - Tues., April 25
A musical tattoo at 2:00 p.m. by the Wind Ensemble, Junior Cadet Band, and Pipes & Drums precedes the Headmaster’s Parade. The Corps marches onto the quadrangle and parades before the Reviewing Officer, Headmaster Kevin McHenry, and special guests. The event serves as a final preparation for Cadet Inspection April 29, as well as affording Old Boys unable to attend a chance to experience the pageantry.

112th Annual Cadet Inspection – Saturday, April 29
This is the biggest event of the Corps calendar, and once again, takes place on the quadrangle at the heart of our campus. The event starts at 1:00 p.m. Parents, past parents, Old Boys, and friends of the School are welcome to attend this grand celebration. This event will be taped and rebroadcast on the School’s YouTube channel. The afternoon begins with a musical tattoo presented by the Wind Ensemble, Junior Cadet Band, and Pipes & Drums.

This year’s Reviewing Officer is Colonel Michael Wright, MMV, MSM, CD. As the Reviewing Officer, Colonel Wright will inspect each platoon and take the salute on the march past. Other special guests MP Chris Ballard and Mayor Geoff Dawe.
After the dismissal of Corps, refreshments will be available in the Staunton Gallery for Cadets and guests.
