St. Andrew’s played a part in Aurora’s Terry Fox Run Sunday, Sept. 18.
Eight SAC students joined volunteers at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex and performed a variety of jobs, from helping to park cars to encouraging runners along the 2-km and 5-km routes.
“Everyone was extremely encouraging for the runners and would applaud as they arrived at the finish line,” says Matteo Fina, grade 12, a volunteer on the parking detail.
Matteo says he spotted teachers Dr. David Joiner and Mr. David Manning participating in the run, as well as classmate Ayo Ogunremi.
In total, the Aurora run raised over $10,000 in donations towards the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research.
According to Terry Fox.org, runs take place in over 9,000 communities across Canada every year and are accessible to anyone in a non-competitive atmosphere. This year’s run was the 36th annual, and since the runs began more than $700-million has been raised in Terry’s name.
