The St. Andrew’s College campus is bustling with students in blazers and staff and faculty greeting new boys and hearing about summer adventures from returning students.
The return to school started with New Family Orientation Days on Tuesday, Sept. 2 (Grades 9 to 11) and Wednesday, Sept. 3 (Grades 5 to 8). Prefects, resplendent in the kilts during perfect back-to-school weather, were stationed on campus to welcome students and their families. Boarding house staff and students were on hand to help the newcomers settle into their rooms and get a taste of the St. Andrew’s community spirit.
These action-packed days mark an exciting start to the year, as families meet their advisors, explore the campus, and share a sit-down lunch in Cole Hall. Each day concludes with a reception at the Head’s House, where parents can mingle and connect with one another. Together, these experiences help new boarding students and their families feel at home while opening the door to the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead.
New and returning students arrived on campus Thursday, Sept. 4, for the first full day of activities, beginning with a school-wide assembly in Ketchum Auditorium at 8:45 a.m. Head of School, Kevin McHenry, announced that there are 671 students enrolled this year, including 208 new families. This translates into 179 Middle School boys and 492 Upper School students. There are 19 countries represented this year, and one-third of Grade 12 students live in boarding.
Students have already delved into their new schedules, collected their brand-new laptops, and set the stage for an exciting academic year. Friday will mark the first full day of classes and the start of Warm Weather Dress.
Next week, students head off for a few days of adventure-packed overnight camping trips designed to foster new friendships and unforgettable experiences.
While the students are off on their camping expeditions, parents are invited to a special reception at the Head of School’s house on Thursday, Sept. 11. Mark your calendars for other significant events this year, including Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 4, An Andrean Christmas at Roy Thomson Hall on Friday, Dec. 12, and the highly anticipated Red & White Gala on Saturday, April 25.
