SAC VEX Robotics kicked off 2025 with a season worthy of a Super Bowl, dominating competitions across Ontario and racking up nine major accomplishments across five teams. The league began in November 2025, and over the next three months, we met four times. Following 16 qualification matches, SAC entered the CAIS League VEX final tournament on February 3. In four intense playoff matches, team 97779X earned its first championship of the season, winning the inaugural CAIS League VEX tournament.
A few days later, the five SAC teams travelled to Ottawa for another VEX Robotics tournament, wihch would prove to be another weekend of victories. Team 97779X won another championship and was awarded the Think Award. The judges award the Think Award to a team to recognize their “superior, consistent, and effective coding techniques and programming solutions to solve game challenges.” Team X’s Skills score at a previous Scarborough competition in January was high enough to qualify them for the Provincial tournament. With these two championships, they had actually earned Provincial qualification three times over.
Our team 97779B won the Judges' Award in Ottawa. This award is given to a team “judges felt were deserving of special recognition.” Team B had a design different from most teams at any competitions we attended, and I was especially impressed to see them helping a younger team that could not fix their own robot. Our Grade 9 team, 97779E, also won the Inspire Award at the Waterloo University competition on November 15. Team 97779A won the Energy Award at the same U of Waterloo event, and then at the Ottawa competition, they earned a high Skills Competition score, qualifying them for the Provincial tournament.
Across five teams, SAC achieved an incredible nine VEX accomplishments—a true Super Bowl of a season for all our VEX teams!
