While the Saints have been struggling with injuries to multiple players the last two weeks, most of the boys were back in the line-up for yesterday’s semi-final tilt with perennial rival Upper Canada College.
They knew that UCC had a few excellent players but that the Saints would be able to grind out a win if they played disciplined, patient, and smart lacrosse. The first quarter ended in a 2-2 tie as the Saints tried to push the pace on offence and turned over the ball repeatedly. Despite a regrouping attempt at the break, the second quarter continued to see undisciplined and lackadaisical play resulting in a 4-2 lead for UCC. Then UCC took a couple of penalties and the Saints seized control of the game rattling-off 7 unanswered goals to lead 9-4 at the half. This allowed the Saints to use everyone in the second half and still cruise to a comfortable 15-8 win.
