SpringSmash 2024 breaks record… AGAIN!

Howdy, folks! It’s time to recap this year’s SpringSmash.

On May 16, SAC students wore their clan spirit dress and cowboy apparel for this year’s country and western-themed SpringSmash. Students were engaged in various exciting games and events, including sports, waterslides, teacher dunk tanks, and the return of the mechanical bull. The dining hall staff also offered an exceptional barbeque lunch.

SpringSmash is a Grade 12 McEwen Leadership program initiative to raise school spirit and funds for Jumpstart Charities, which assists young people who don’t have the opportunity to participate in sport. The students at St. Andrew’s College recognize that they are fortunate to participate in a wide variety of sports and extra-curricular activities, and they help provide these same opportunities so others can enjoy the benefits of sport and play: leadership, friendship, self-esteem, and more.

Ryan Torisawa, a McEwen Leadership student who helped to organize the event, was excited about this year’s event. “The event was a tremendous success, and we surpassed our fundraising goal and raised over $60,000 for Jumpstart Charities,” he said, adding the goal was $50,000.

This year, SpringSmash was presented by BODYARMOR and sponsored by Orangetheory Fitness Newmarket-Aurora, Elevation Athletics, Redback Boots, Sky Service, Interline Wholesale Hardware, and Green Leaf Developments. For every $100 raised, a “sporting chance” was given to a child to get in the game.

Next year, the SAC community will face the challenge of breaking their record once again.
