After a busy three-match week for the 1st Soccer team, the Saints are focused on hosting their first-ever SAC Soccer Fall Showcase, featuring some of the top teams from the Toronto area and our provincial neighbours in Montreal.
The event will kick-off on Friday, October 14 with SAC welcoming both Appleby College and Orangeville’s Athlete Institute FC. And joining those squads over the weekend will be Toronto’s St. Michael’s College School and a trio of teams from Montreal’s Ribeiro Moojen Pre-University Soccer program. This past week, the Saints played a dominant second half, had a goal disallowed and dropped a tight 1-0 decision to Upper Canada College on Homecoming, before bouncing back on Monday with a convincing 4-2 win over visiting De La Salle College. In Monday’s victory, co-captain Issa Abdu ’24 scored twice, with senior Marcus Marek Tortorella ’23 (pictured) & co-captain Quintin Roy ’23 adding singles.
On Wednesday, SAC travelled to St. Michael’s College School with just 12 healthy bodies, as the flu bug hit the squad hard. The Saints dug in and held the game scoreless for 74 minutes before conceding a goal and eventually falling 3-0, after pushing forward to try to find the equalizer. It was an amazing effort from an illness-depleted group.
