Break a leg! - Focus Festival of the Arts

For three days on campus, the 33rd annual Focus Festival of the Arts presented a magnificent display of performing arts for the Andrean community. The event took place May 11-13 and demonstrated exceptional student talent in dramatic art, visual art, and music.

It was the culminating event for students to demonstrate their passion for the arts after several months of preparation. The festival featured more than 100 student actors across 20 plays, stunning art displays, and an eclectic collection of music showcased across campus.

Spectators were encouraged to laugh, celebrate, and reflect on the students’ hard work. Among the collection of shows presented in Wirth Theatre, highlights included This is Our Life, ’72, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Trying to Find Chinatown, Merchant of Showboat, This is a School Lockdown, and Grease.
This year on the main stage, there were two original premieres that held a spotlight on social justice in the world. “This Is Our Life is an imaginative re-telling of The Tragically Hip songs through the eyes of a 17-year-old Ukrainian refugee, and ’72 examines the legacy of the Canada-Soviet summit series, which marks its 50th anniversary this September,” explains William Scoular, Department Head, Drama.

Staunton Gallery came alive with student art prominently displayed throughout. Musical performances echoed down the halls each day from the Pipes & Drums, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and many more.
Focus delivered a vibrant assortment of student achievements in the arts. Another wonderful event to look back upon as we near the end of the 2021-2022 academic year.
