The Highland Games - An exhibition of strength and skill

The Highland Games showcased a variety of friendly student competitions as we approach the end of the academic year.

Students participated in contests of strength and skill to earn points for their respective houses as they work toward winning the coveted H.B. Housser Cup for the title of “Best House.” The event replaced last Thursday’s Cadet practice timeslot to celebrate a successful parade season. Events included tug o’ war, a bagpipe competition, caber toss, shot put, ball over bar throw, jousting, and a 6,200 lbs truck pull!

In addition to the afternoon of competition, other highlights included music curated by Mr. Ryan Johnson, a barbeque lunch, and two ice cream trucks.

As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one afternoon, the McEwen Leadership students hosted a faculty vs. student frisbee game to kick off the Highland Games on Yuill Field in support of the program’s upcoming SpringSmash fundraiser. Unsurprisingly, the faculty emerged victorious at the end of a fierce battle.

The annual SpringSmash event will take place on May 26 and continues to accept fundraising donations. Those who wish to donate can do so at https://donate.jmpst.ca/springsmash2022
