Acceptances are rolling in

Graduates of the Class of 2022 are already busy weighing their options as university offers continue to pour in.

“It’s a big decision,” says Teri Groves, Head of University Counselling, noting 327 offers have already been received, with additional ones arriving daily.

University Counselling meets with every grad to discuss decision making. The quality of the program, the size of the school, its distance from home, career and enrichment opportunities, the school’s perceived prestige, and the availability of scholarships are factors students are left to consider when sifting through their many options.

As in previous years, acceptances have arrived from some top U.S. schools, including the universities of Pennsylvania, Southern California, North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Notre Dame, Miami, Illinois, Berkley, and Michigan–Ann Arbor. Additional acceptances came in from Purdue, Cornell, Harvard, Northwestern, NYU, Syracuse, and Berklee College of Music, among several others. Students have also received international offers from the universities of Sussex, Surrey, Glasgow, St Andrews, Aberdeen, and King’s College London (University of London).

Jack Beswick has been awarded a Hellmuth Scholarship from Huron University College. Aside from an impressive academic average, award recipients must demonstrate a passion for student life through leadership, volunteerism, arts, and athletics. Huron’s president made a surprise appearance at SAC to hand-deliver the news where he noted that Jack’s application showed brains and heart, an important combination.

Sebastian Kinsey and Aaron Mizrahi have been accepted to the dual law degree between Wilfred Laurier University and the University of Sussex in the U.K. This six-year degree provides a BA from Laurier and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Sussex, with educational and practical experience included.

Henry Paluch, Head Prefect, has already amassed eight offers from Canadian and international universities, including the University of St Andrews, a popular destination for our top-performing bagpipers, of which Henry is the school’s Pipe Major. Henry has also been awarded the University of Toronto’s President’s Entrance Scholarship, awarded to the most highly qualified students applying to first-year studies. The scholarship comes with a monetary prize and several other benefits, including part-time on-campus employment in the second year and access to an international learning opportunity.

Zain Salman, one of the school’s top academics, has received five offers of admission from top Canadian universities. He is the recipient of UBC’s President Scholarship, which recognizes students with outstanding academic, leadership, and extra-curricular achievements. Zain is one of 39 students to receive the award out of 10,000 plus applicants.

Spencer Thomson will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall after being awarded the Morehead-Cain Scholarship. Spencer was one of only a handful of Canadians to receive the prestigious all-expenses-covered four-year undergraduate scholarship, which also provides four years of summer enrichment experiences.

A number of our Class of 2022 grads have signed letters of intent to NCAA and U Sports athletic programs, including hockey placements to Luke Devlin from Cornell, Matthew Morden from Harvard, Eli Sebastian from Northeastern, and Aydar Suniev from the University of Massachusetts. Riley Knox received a lacrosse scholarship to Mercer University, and football awards were accepted by Kyle Murphy to the University of Toronto and Gavin Owen to the University of British Columbia. Soccer awards were accepted by Owen Bradbury, Carlton University; Ali Gharib, University of Dayton; Adam Mallalieu, Washington University in St. Louis; and Ronan Woodroffe, University of British Columbia.

Typically, two-thirds of SAC graduates attend Ontario schools. This trend will likely continue this year with offers from Western University (61), University of Toronto (29), Queen’s University (28), University of Waterloo (20), Wilfrid Laurier University (20), University of Guelph (18), and McMaster University (16).
