St. Andrew's College & Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League forge partnership

As teams across Ontario seek challenging competition, the St. Andrew's College (SAC) Saints and the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) have partnered to allow their teams to compete against one another regardless of their home league.
The Saints will play five GOJHL teams twice (home and home) for a total of ten games. The lineup includes the Ayr Centennials, Brantford Bandits, Fort Erie Meteors, Hamilton Kilty B's, and Thorold Blackhawks. SAC will host all five teams for a Showcase Event October 4-5, and the GOJHL U18 All-Star Team will play in SAC's annual MacPherson Hockey Tournament January 28-30, 2022, which brings together the top prep school teams in North America.
"We are very excited about this partnership with the GOJHL," says St. Andrew's Hockey Head Coach, David Manning. "We have worked hard to establish ourselves as a place that takes the development of its student-athletes seriously, and this is another way to provide our players the ability to prepare for their next step."
This partnership comes on the heels of the Saints' collaboration with Culver Academics, Mount Saint Charles Academy, Northwood School, Shattuck-St. Mary's School, and South Kent School to form the Prep Hockey Conference (PHC).
GOJHL Commissioner, Brent Garbutt, is equally excited about this partnership. "The GOJHL is thrilled to partner with a pillar in hockey and academic development, SAC, and Coach Manning," stated Garbutt. "This will allow for increased exposure opportunities for the players in both organizations while allowing our GOJHL Top Prospects the opportunity to showcase their talent at the prestigious MacPherson tournament. It is truly impressive what Coach Manning and the other Academies have done with the creation of the Prep Hockey Conference."
"The GOJHL has a long history of moving players to the higher levels," explains Coach Manning. "This coupled with the experience of playing in some unique environments against great competition makes this an easy decision for us moving forward. This partnership, along with what we already have on our schedule, and the formation of the PHC for the 2021-2022 season, makes us feel like our schedule offers our players the opportunity to compete at a high level and be in the academic environment."
After the cancellation of the 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19, the players are ready to get back to competition as they strive to achieve their hockey dreams. The first contest in this new partnership takes place Sunday, Sept. 12, when the Saints visit the Ayr Centennials.
The Varsity Saints have elevated players to university teams since its inception. In the last 13 years under Coach Manning's guidance, 46 players have moved on to NCAA programs, and another 11 have been drafted to the NHL.
