The young St. Andrew's 1st Team cruised through the group stages, quarters and semis at the CAIS National Soccer Championship, before getting outmuscled in the final and dropping a 2-1 decision to Crescent School.
With great home crowds at Yuill Field, the Saints dominated possession in all six of their weekend matches with an exciting brand of attacking soccer.
The SAC squad went 3-0 in the group stage with wins over Saltus (4-1), Royal St. George’s (8-0) and Stanstead (5-0). In the quarterfinals, the Saints topped Selwyn before slipping past Hillfield Strathallan in the semi-final, both by identical 2-0 scores.
Kenyan U20 international Ali Abubakar Gharib ‘22 led all scorers with four goals, with every single one of the Saints 18-man squad making an impact over the weekend.
On Friday, the Saints will venture south of the border for what will likely be their toughest matches of the season.
Northwood School (Black Rock), in Lake Placid, NY is quickly being considered one of the top prep school soccer programs in the United States and the Saints are eager for the challenge.
SAC Soccer will open their weekend with a 12 p.m. kick-off on Sat. Oct 26 versus the Northwood School U19s. On Sunday, SAC will take on the Northwood School U18s, also at 12 p.m., with all matches taking place at the Lake Placid Horse Show Grounds.
