Roller coaster four-point week for 1st Soccer Saints
The St. Andrew's College 1st Soccer Team got off to a rocky start last week, but were able to steady the ship to hang onto first place in the CISAA standings.
The Saints had a pair of early scoring opportunities on Monday at Crescent School, and it may have been a different story had they buried those two chances. Instead, the hosts jumped out on the counter midway through the first half to hold on for a 3-1 win. Diego Velazquez ‘22 had the lone SAC marker with a beautiful glancing header.
The St. Andrew’s boys got back to work and wrapped up the three-match road trip with a 5-2 victory on Wednesday at Appleby College and a scrappy 1-1 draw at Upper Canada College’s homecoming.
At Appleby, Ali Abubakar Gharib '22 scored a pair of goals, including a jaw-dropping solo effort that saw him walk the ball into the net for the second straight week. German first-year scholar Jan Hofmeister ’22 scored the opening goal, with captain Christopher Marton ’20 and striker Mark Hillier ’20 rounding out the SAC scoring.
Gharib also had the only Saints goal at UCC on Saturday.
The SAC 1st Team wraps up their league schedule on Wednesday against visiting Trinity College, before we break for the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.
