SAC Curling ends regular season splitting games

Saints Curling teams split two games against Bayview Glen on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Bradford Curling Club.
With three of the four curlers on the boys curling team out because of illness, regular John Hou was joined by Colby Jackson from the Open Curling Division and call-up Lucas Chew from SAC's Development Squad.
This group rose to the challenge. Nice draws by Lucas and take-outs by John and Colby contributed to a tied score at half time against an experienced skip. BVG pulled ahead in the second half, however, to win the game, although some hard sweeping by the Saints almost won the final end. Great job, boys! Final score: BVG 6, SAC 2.
On the adjacent sheet, the three members of the Open Curling team slowly pulled ahead of BVG. Nice take-outs and draws by Eddie Hao, multiple take-outs by Nova Schmidt (including a “Pirate's Cove” classic!), and great sweeping and ricochets by Nick Cruickshanks helped the Saints shut out BVG with a score of 10-0 by the completion of the fifth end. With only eight stones left and the game out of reach, BVG's players shook hands and conceded the game rather than play the final end.
Both teams are off to the CISAA Playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The Boys team, in fourth place after the regular season, will play The York School; the Open team, in first place, will play Toronto French School's 'B' team.
Special thanks as well to the SAC Development Squad who averted a flood on the ice by noticing a water leak from the curling club's water filtration system.
