SAC tops list in Movember’s Wispy Lips High School Challenge

Movember is over for another year and the SAC team of Mo Bros surpassed their fundraising goal.

Our student and teacher participants started November with freshly mowed upper lips and finished the month with full stashes (plus a few valiant attempts!).

“We are no longer asked to wear these elegant lip sweaters with pride. However, it is with great admiration that I look back on our month of growth,” said team captain, Joe Commisso, a geography teacher in the Upper School.

“We have helped fight the stigma of male mental illness, we raised awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, we walked a mile in high heels, and we raised an incredible $16,562!”

Since Mr. Commisso's December 1 announcement, the SAC Mo Bros team has posted a fundraising tally of $17,012. and is placed in the top 50 teams from across Canada.

As of today, St. Andrew’s sits in first place in the Wispy Lips High School Challenge. Andrew Boland leads all Canadian high school participants with an incredible $5,244. Five other SAC Mo Bros joined Andrew on the Top 20 donator list for high school participants, so thank you to Hayden Reinemo, Evan Brisley, Owen Laffey, Sam Gentile, and Ryan Lindsay for their amazing fundraising efforts.

In addition to growing a mo, some students took part in an annual SAC Movember fundraiser, a bowling night with girls from St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School.

Additionally, some boys capped off the Movember campaign by supporting the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event to raise awareness for violence against women and children, in particular, the Yellow Brick House, a place in York Region for abused women and children.

“Thank you to all who participated and to those who showed their support beyond facial hair. We will continue to help out with Prostate Cancer Canada in the spring when we participate in the Step Up Challenge,” said Mr. Commisso.

The mission of the Movember Foundation is to save and improve men’s lives through projects focused on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.
