It’s #JerseyDay at St. Andrew’s in honour of Humboldt Broncos

St. Andrew’s answered the rally call in support of the Humboldt Broncos of Saskatchewan.

Today, boys, faculty, and staff participated in #JerseyDay and #SticksOutForHumboldt, two social media hashtags created in the wake of last Friday’s devastating crash between a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team and a tractor-trailer.

Sixteen people have died as a result of the crash in rural Saskatchewan: 10 players, the team coach, assistant coach, radio announcer, team statistician, bus driver, and the teams’ athletic therapist, Dayna Brown, who died in hospital yesterday.

Hundreds of jerseys are being sported on campus today, and dozens of hockey sticks are standing against the wall in Dunlap Hall. One of the sticks is holding up an athletic therapist bag in honor of Dayna, and the initials of those who died are written on the tape.

In the centre of Staunton Gallery, a SAC hockey jersey has been laid out on a table for students to sign with their initials. The jersey will be sent to Humboldt along with donations to a fund for the families of those who died.
