Scholarship & Bursaries

Universities offer financial support to students in the form of bursaries and scholarships. Bursaries are monetary grants given to students on the basis of financial need. Scholarships are awards given to students on the basis of academic merit, or a combination of academic merit and other achievements.

All universities have scholarships for which students need not apply. They are automatically considered on the basis of submitted marks.

The universities’ larger and more prestigious scholarships, as well as scholarships that are independent of a specific university, require a detailed application, including achievements, awards, accomplishments, and references.

University Counselling assists graduating students in a couple of ways. Information is provided to students (both via email and posted on the 'Scholarships' Edsby Group) throughout the academic year with summaries of the more prominent available scholarships, including brief descriptions, due dates, and links for more information. We also identify students who meet the requirements for certain prestigious scholarships and urge them to apply. The University Counsellors are prepared to assist students in their preparation of scholarship applications.
