Impressive start for Triathlon team
St. Andrew's College entered five students into the Blyth Academy indoor triathlon on April 4.
Michael Kurp, Zack Karakulkin, Willem Grier, Terry Wu, and Alex Ventin were selected to represent SAC and they did not disappoint.
55 athletes from 14 different schools attended the event. The athletes were separated into three groups and rotated between the three disciplines.
The 3km run was the first event for our boys. Michael Kurp and Willem Grier lead the charge by earning the top two spots in their group with times of 9:02 and 9:04 respectively.
They then headed to the bikes. Zakhar Karakulkin lead all athletes with the fastest bike of the day. He clocked just over 22 minutes for his 15km of cycling.
Finally, the triathletes moved to the pool. Alex Ventin was the fastest Andrean in the water, swimming his 400m in just over 5 minutes.
After all the tabulations were complete, the final results were:
Willem Grier: 1st (new course record)
Zack Karakulkin: 2nd
Michael Kurp: 4th
Full credit should be given to the squad from Royal St. George's, as they earned 4 top 10 finishes as well.
