The SAC Alpine Ski Team headed to Alpine SC for their Championship race Wednesday. While it was a spectacular day, the warm temperatures made the snow very soft, which proved to be challenging for some racers.
Our Level 2 team had a strong day. They had to win the race to secure the championship, and fantastic runs by Aidan Walters (1st overall), Hunter Appelbe (4th), and Ryan Henderson (7th) easily secured the victory and the CISAA Championship for the L2 team. Furthermore, it is a testament to the depth of this team that 6 of the team's nine racers were in the top 15 in a field of 50.
After a couple of uncharacteristic finishes, our Level 1 racers were eager to improve their finish this week. While they were not able to catch the winner and eventual CISAA Championship team from St. Mike's, as a whole, the team was far more consistent and technically sound today. Finishes by Kieran Walters (3rd), Alex Bordage (9th) and Cole Lapshinoff (12th), earned the team a solid second place finish, and ultimately, the Silver Team CISAA medal.
Lastly, the U14s had one of their best races of the season. While all of our racers successfully completed their runs and improved greatly over previous weeks, their relative inexperience still limited their finish to 4th overall. They have progressed greatly in a short season and were led by Francisco Pasquel's 12th place finish.
Next Up: Provincial Championships for L2 in Collingwood (Feb. 25 to 27).
