The U16 Saints travelled to Hamilton to face #2 Hillfield on their home court. HSC has had the same group of players working through their system and have been age-group strong.
The Saints began incredibly well, defended hard and executed beautifully in the first quarter despite two quick fouls by two starters. Bringing energy, enthusiasm, and execution, SAC was up 16-12 after one.
The message at the end of the quarter was to keep executing offensively and stop their fast break. Unfortunately, SAC couldn’t match their tempo up the floor, and HSC went on a 7-0 run to start the quarter.
Settling down, SAC kept getting easy looks from outside through solid execution but shot 1 for 9 from three-point territory in the second quarter. A missed layup at one end quickly turned into an “and one” for HSC, creating a five-point swing. At the half, Saints were down 33-23.
The halftime message was a desperate cry out for more determination on the defensive glass. But in the third, HSC dominated around the rim and had a minimum of four shots each possession. At the end of three, it was 54-33.
The Saints battled in the fourth and got to within twelve, but were unable to sustain any consistency. Robbie MacEachern had a team-high 20 points for your Saints.
Overall, there many very positive pieces and parts, but now just have to put it all together. We are working on our consistency in an effort to put together a complete game.
