Your U16 Saints had the unenviable task of matching up once again with undefeated and very talented Crestwood Prep to open the new year.
The same crew of Crestwood athletes as last time rolled into the gym, but with yet another player who we hadn't seen previously, who ended up being their leading scorer.
The coach’s message to the team: play hard, play smart and execute, and don't worry about the score.
Throughout the course of the game your Saints played hard, executed in almost every part of the game, and competed from start to finish.
Down ten at halftime, we played out of our minds in every part of the game, save for one...turnovers. Of Crestwood's 41 points at the half, more than half were scored on turnovers and uncontested layups. Despite this, we kept hanging around and the coaches kept pushing your Saints to believe that reducing turnovers was the only piece missing.
Never backing down, your Saints battled in the third quarter when the tent should have been pitched, and clawed back to within three points at the end of the third 56-53.
With no gas in the tank, and with our ongoing issues with turnovers against their length and pressure (25-30), the fourth saw Crestwood extend the lead and bury us in the final four minutes. Nonetheless, your Saints put forth a very impressive performance which will hopefully be something to build on.
