Boys of SAC making a difference

Over the past two weeks, St. Andrew’s boys have done a tremendous job helping out our community.

First, a group of SAC students volunteered at the annual Terry Fox run in Aurora. The students assisted in running food & water stations and directing participants on the trail. The event raised $17,532 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

On Friday, September 27, the entire school gathered in Ketchum Auditorium for an assembly honouring Terry Fox. Middle School boys then participated in a campus run followed by an educational component in their classrooms on the iconic Canadian.

Clans competed at the School to raise money by collecting loose change to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation. The boys worked hard and raised more than $500 in loose change. Mr. Macpherson challenged the clans to raise even more at the cost of his hair. The boys will continue to compete for loose change for one more week, and if the funds raised are significant enough, Mr. MacPherson will shave his head in honour of the Canadian Hero.

The grade 9 and 10 students visited St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School for girls in Oakville as part of the third annual Saints Day. They joined the "Millies" for a six-kilometre run/walk in support of Camp Oochigeas, a camp for children with cancer. To date they have raised an impressive amount of $2,450, nearly half their goal of $5,000.
