Grade 6 holiday card a seasonal delight

Each year, Grade 6 students create a beautiful holiday-themed painting in art class with Mrs. Berman.

The most creative ones, based on design and colour, are selected and entered in the Head of School holiday card selection.

Mr. Kevin McHenry then chooses his favourite piece, which becomes his family's holiday card. The decision is always a tough one, as there is a significant amount of beautiful works created.

Arts Coordinator, Randi Berman, leads this creative process. This years, the Grade 6 boys created watercolour collages and the theme was “red barn.” Each student’s design was unique as they experimented with a variety of watercolour techniques.

The 2021 chosen painting belongs to Philip Malkhassian, whose design features a red barn decorated in colourful lights and an SAC crest. There also a tree on the horizon, circled with lights and a star on top, backed by a textured blue sky.

“He is a meticulous, dedicated artist,” Mrs. Berman stated. She added that all the works were beautiful and choosing Philip’s was a difficult decision.

The boys carted their paintings home and many of them will be wrapped as holiday gifts!
