Fall term academic achievements recognized

Academic accomplishments for the fall term were celebrated in both the Upper and Middle Schools Friday, Nov. 26.

To start the Upper School assembly, faculty and Leadership Team members were piped to the stage in Ketchum Auditorium. David Stewart, Associate Director, Upper School Student Affairs, recited our land acknowledgement, then the Wind Ensemble played O Canada.

Michael Paluch, Assistant Head of School, Director of Academics, took to the microphone before the awards were handed out, acknowledging how wonderful it was to hear live music played at SAC as the school puts a cap on the fall term that was chockfull of activities: Orange Shirt Day, Pride Week, the staging of West Side Story, and the Student MEDIC Summit.

Mr. Paluch stressed that the fall academic assembly places the focus on learning skills over grades. Collaboration, taking initiative, and practicing self-regulation are important traits that are valued as part of the students’ education.

After the Upper School cleared out of the auditorium, it was time for Middle School students to celebrate academic success. Trevor Biasi, Director of Middle School, echoed Mr. Paluch’s remarks and told the boys that the awards criteria for the fall term spotlight learning skills over marks. 

He urged the boys to embrace the concept of resilience, saying this attribute will help them navigate through their Upper School years.

“The Middle School years are all about trying. The more you attempt to overcome something, the more resilient you become,” Mr. Biasi said.

The fall term athletic assemblies will be Monday, Nov. 29 for the Upper School and Tuesday, Nov. 30 for the Middle School.
