Grade 10 Outdoor Leadership trips are back

A group of Grade 10 Outdoor Leadership students recently completed a four-day mountain biking trip. They mountain biked in beautiful but very wet conditions, built fires, navigated, threw axes, played manhunt, and generally had a great time.

The trip was based out of YMCA Camp Pine Crest in Muskoka. All students in the GPP 30 course must complete a four-day trip as their summative assessment for the course. They have a choice of four trips: mountain biking, winter skills, canoeing or sea kayaking. Bandsmen are welcome to come on the sea kayaking trip.

The boys were thrilled to be outside with their friends, refining skills from the program (fire building and knots) and improving their cycling and bike maintenance skills. Although the weather was beautiful, the trails were quite wet, and at times the boys were cycling through puddles 30 centimetres deep. It was amazing to see the progress some boys made in their cycling skills.

I want to thank the 15 students who participated in the trip for giving it their best each day (despite three broken bike chains) and M. Zhou and Mr. Ramon for coming as co-facilitators.
The next Grade 10 trip will be Winter Skills, Feb. 3 to 6, 2022.
