SAC golfers win team championship at OFSAA

A team of four SAC golfers secured the OFSAA boys team championship in the first OFSAA championship event held since the pandemic.

As the school year began, it was still undecided if this year’s OFSAA event would even happen due to potential COVID-19 restrictions. In early September, coaches Jamie MacPherson and Dave Stewart got the call that the qualifier tournament was a go, and only had a week to prepare a team.

Normally there would be tryouts to put together a team, but due to the last-minute nature of the event, MacPherson and Stewart were forced to lean on a group of student-athletes who volunteered to represent SAC on the course. Daniel Kraik, Matthew Lyons, Andrew Aquino, and James McNair would go on to win the qualifier, which secured their spot at the OFSAA championship.

On October 13, the boys travelled to Glen Eagle golf club in Bolton. The team fired six rounds in the 70s over two days, including a score of 2-under par on the last day by Lyons. They won the team championship by 12 strokes for the first OFSAA gold in golf in school history.

Coach MacPherson says, “I’m excited about the young core of golfers that aren’t scared to go low.” These players are hoping to ride the momentum into the spring season and bring home a CISAA Championship.
