SAC Soccer Is Back: Class of 2022 Recruits & Season Preview

Over the past 18 months, sport has taken a backseat — and rightfully so — to the much more pressing health and community concerns brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

At St. Andrew’s College, we do all that we can to keep our campus safe and are thrilled to finally get back on the soccer pitch and playing matches again, full-time!

The First Soccer team already has a trio of scrimmages under their belt, and is ready to showcase a senior class that is getting plenty of attention, alongside an emerging young core who are ready to make an immediate impact.

The voice, strength (and size) of this group will come through the middle via its co-captains, 6’4” centre back Ethan Hart ’22 and 6’5” midfielder Owen Bradbury ’22. Hart will command the back line, with Bradbury being the spark that starts the SAC attack.

They’ll be looking to link up with attacking midfielder/winger (and Kenyan youth international) Ali Gharib ’22, who already has four goals in three games, along with Quinton Roy ’23, who will see time up top as a striker, as well out on the wing.

Adding to that stability, will be plenty of competition for playing time in goal.  Three-year starter Ronan Woodroffe ’22 will be pushed by Barbados youth international Adam Mallalieu ’22 and the up and coming Gaven Toor ’24, who may also see some time in midfield.

Further solidifying the defensive core will be SAC’s third arrival from East Africa’s Ascent Soccer — Ugandan youth international Issa Abdu ’24, who will add some energy and enthusiasm to this young group.

Expectations are also very high this year for the scrappy midfield duo of Ben Hilgendorff ’23, and Jamaican new-boy Nathan Chin ’23, in addition to the senior athleticism of Nat Bannister ’22 and Andrew Jung ’22.

Also eager to make an impact with be the future of SAC Soccer, including defenders Carter Leung ‘23, Sami Al-Hinai ’23 and Oliver Poulos ‘25, wingers Andreas Petrozza ‘23, Marcus Marek-Tortorella ’23 and Matvey Semochkin ‘25 and midfielder Jaxon Cover ‘25.

St. Andrew’s College Soccer will get its first taste of CISAA action on Wednesday, September 29, when they travel to St. Catharines to take on Ridley College at 4 p.m. The Saints are then back home on Saturday, October 2, for a 1 p.m. Homecoming kick-off against Upper Canada College.

Upcoming Action:
Wed September 29 at Ridley College, 4 p.m. (St. Catharines, ON)
Sat October 2 vs Upper Canada College (Yuill Field, St. Andrew’s College)

Stay safe, and the Saints hope to see you on the pitch soon.
