SAC joins forces to create Prep Hockey Conference

After more than a year in the making, six leading men's preparatory hockey-playing institutions announce the establishment of the Prep Hockey Conference (PHC). The league is set to begin play in the 2021-2022 season.

The institutions are Culver Academies (Culver, Indiana), Mount St. Charles Academy (Woonsocket, Rhode Island), Northwood School (Lake Placid, New York), Shattuck-St. Mary's School (Faribault, Minnesota), South Kent School (Kent, Connecticut), and St. Andrew's College (Aurora, Ontario).

The league comprises institutions rich in history and tradition with a strong commitment to academic and athletic excellence. They are like-minded in their goals and aspirations for the PHC, focusing on improving the overall student-athlete experience while building rivalries through healthy competition.

The PHC is committed to providing the best possible hockey experience for its players, fans, and stakeholders. The group plans to establish itself as the premiere prep hockey league in North America by setting the highest standards for competitiveness and maintaining a level of institutional investment that demonstrates a significant commitment to its hockey programs and facilities. The goal is to establish relationships within and beyond the hockey world that create a high degree of visibility and positive media exposure for the PHC, its programs, and its players.

"The formation of the PHC has been something we've envisioned being a part of and are thrilled to be a founding member with these other outstanding programs. We can't wait for that first game next fall and the opportunity to compete and showcase our players in the best prep hockey league in North America," says Saints Head Coach David Manning.

Since 1899, hockey has been woven into the fabric of St. Andrew's culture and, for many young men, it has been an important piece of their educational journey. With teams starting at U12, St. Andrew's offers a hockey program at every level.

The First Hockey Saints have elevated players to university teams since its inception, but in the last 13 years under Coach Manning's guidance, 46 players have moved on to NCAA programs, and another eleven have been drafted to the NHL.

Joining forces with these top schools will ensure players are pushing for their best, reaching their goals and dreams, and continuing to develop against players who will challenge them every game.

The schools making up the PHC have agreed to a mutually beneficial governance arrangement as they set out to transform the prep hockey landscape.
