McEwen Leadership students adapt to virtual entrepreneurship fair

Traditionally, the McEwen Entrepreneurship Fair is held in Staunton Gallery, where Grade 12 students present pitches and display booths featuring their entrepreneurial venture ideas to a panel of judges and fellow St. Andrew's business students. 

The event serves as a culminating task for a large project-based learning initiative in which the students explore the driving question: What good or service should be introduced to the marketplace to fill a gap and create consumer demand?

The Grade 12 students began brainstorming ideas for their venture plans in early October. As it became evident that we would not be able to host an in-person event (due to constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic), the students created virtual pitches highlighting their business plans.

Last week, the students showcased their ideas to judges from the business community and the school population via a video presentation and competed to win this year's Judges' Choice and People's Choice Awards.

The event was a huge success and featured several unique and feasible venture plan ideas. Here are the award winners:

Judges' Choice Awards – Innovation Group

  • Best Presentation Pitch: Right Method Records - Ryan Bryden and Braeden Donnelly
  • Best Visual Display: PickUp - Denis Kasianiuk, Connor Luciani, Jordan Trajkovski
  • Most Feasible Business Plan: Prep Ahead - Christian Haggith and Hunter Kolm
  • Most Creative/Innovative Business Plan:  PickUp - Denis Kasianiuk, Connor Luciani, Jordan Trajkovski

  • Best Presentation Pitch:  Herbal Hydrate - Ryan Henderson, Ian Morrison, Matthew Roy

  • Most Feasible Business Plan: Playback - Marcus Aitoro, Cole Benoit-Meschino, Jake McMillan
