Movember mos grew under masks this year

SAC’s Movember Mo Bros team took on the hair-raising challenge to raise funds for men’s health issues.
For another year, the 18-person team, which included six faculty members and three Old Boys,  helped support the Movember Foundation, which aims to save and improve men’s lives through fundraising projects focused on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.

The School team is still shy of its 2020 goal, but Nolan Rush ’21, a Prefect and one of the Mo Captains, along with Liam Taylor ’21 and Liam Stevenson ’21, said the participants did a great job.

“We are very proud of the $7,830 we did raise during these tough times,” Nolan says. He notes that in previous years, fundraising got a boost from fun events such as the annual bowling night held with girls from St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School that is just one of many events cancelled during the pandemic.

While many on the team were focused on growing facial hair during the one-month challenge, others chose to raise funds by making their move in MOVEmber by pledging to walk or run 60 kilometres and raising funds for the cause. SAC’s Top Mover award goes to Megan Dobson, SAC’s Wellness Lead, who moved a total of 128.99 kilometres.

Other award recipients are Lochlan McTeague ’21 for the Top Donator Award, David Buckley ’22 for the Thanks For Trying Mo Award, Benjamin Goring ’21 for the Best Mo Award, and Griffin Ardill ’21 for the Greasiest Mo Award.

The Movember Foundation donation pages are still active, and contributions can be made to the SAC Mo Bros here.
