New youth internationals highlight 2020 SAC Soccer roster

St. Andrew’s College Soccer’s 2020 league, showcase and friendly
schedule is still up in the air, but that hasn’t stopped distanced on-campus
tryouts, new student-athlete arrivals, and preparations for another
great season.

With a strong returning core and a number of experienced new faces,
expectations remain high for Saints Soccer, even in the midst of the
COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting from the back, Barbados youth international goalkeeper Adam
Mallalieu ’23 is set to arrive on campus to push last year’s starter
Ronan Woodroffe ’22 (pictured) and new local talent Gaven Toor ’24.

Just in front of the goalkeepers will be SAC’s third arrival from
East Africa’s Ascent Soccer, Ugandan youth international defender Issa
Abdu ’23, who will add some energy and enthusiasm from defence.

The middle of the park has already got plenty of attention from
universities both north and south of the border, and most of SAC’s
offence will be expected from the senior midfield pair of Ryan Purdy
’21 and John-Anthony Zarboni ’21, with Ian Hilgendorff ’21 making the
transition further up the pitch to the number nine spot.

Part of that solid spine for SAC Soccer, will also come from a pair of
ball-playing 6-foot-3-plus centre backs in Owen Bradbury ’22 and Ethan
Hart ’22.

Internationally, Ugandan Issa Abdu will be joining former Ascent
Soccer teammates Ali Gharib ’22 (Kenya), last season’s top SAC scorer,
and speedy-lefty fullback/winger Geoffrey Ogenrwot ’21 (Uganda).

St. Andrew’s Soccer is on the pitch training full-time and
hopes to announce some friendly matches and share new video, as soon
as they get the green light from school leadership and local health
officials.

Stay safe, and the Saints hope to see you on the pitch soon.
