U16 Basketball faces off against tough opponent

The U16 Basketball Saints travelled to Crestwood Prep to take on behemoth Elijah Fisher and their U16 squad Monday.

For those who don’t follow basketball, Fisher is the No. 1-rated player for his year in North America. Having said that, your coaches couldn’t tell which one was Fisher because there was a lot of talent on display for Crestwood in the warmup.

Having loaned Robbie MacEachern to First, we knew this was going to be an uphill climb, but it was critically important to continue to improve and execute.

The first quarter saw the Saints turn the ball over continuously and give up easy looks. Our set defence was fine, but we didn’t get a chance much in quarter one. End of one, 25-7.

The second quarter saw the Saints execute and we didn’t turn it over. Our half-court defence was solid, as was our rebounding. Middle of the quarter saw an 8-0 run for us and a timeout for Crestwood. A buzzer shot three for Crestwood made the quarter worse than it was: 40-15 at the half.

The Saints never rolled over in the second half, battling Crestwood while everyone got minutes. Second half was 26-25 in the half.

The coaches were impressed with the compete level against a talented team. Who knows what possibilities could await in a playoff matchup, but first we need to get there.

Final result: Crestwood 66 SAC 40
