Boys thrilled by science and tech renovation reveal

Headmaster Kevin McHenry was the bearer of some amazing news when he shared details of the School’s monumental plans to revamp its science facilities.

When he revealed that the plans call for a total renovation to McLaughlin Hall, he was greeted with cheers from an audience of grades 9 and 10 boys in Ketchum Auditorium this week.

The students were shown a series of slides containing artist’s renderings of what the three-story space will look like once the work is complete. When they heard the construction won’t start for at least another year, the boys were clearly disappointed they were going to have to wait to use the state-of-the-art, high-tech facilities.

Every floor of McLaughlin Hall is getting a facelift. The second and third floors will be home to physics, chemistry, biology, and general science. Robotics, computer science, and engineering will be re-homed to the main floor. The Donald Davis Theatre and adjacent classrooms will be transformed into a two-storey makerspace.

Grade 10 student Nicholas Giorgio said he’s looking forward to using the upgraded labs and the makerspace in his grade 12 year, adding this facelift will be a huge benefit to students currently in Middle School.

“The future is bright for these younger kids,” Nicholas said.

Headmaster McHenry encouraged the boys to check out the details, including renderings and floor plans, at www.sac.on.ca/scienceandtech
