The Varsity Football Saints defeated the reigning OFSAA Eastern Bowl finalist Crestwood Mustangs 42-6 Monday afternoon, Sept. 17, on Yuill Field.
Quarterback Dylan Tabone led the way on offence, throwing for four touchdowns and over 300 yards in the air, while adding a rushing TD and over 100 yards on the ground.
Rookie SB/RB Nate Falconi made his much-anticipated debut and did not disappoint. Falconi totaled over 100 yards receiving, as well as 100 yards rushing, and scored two TDs.
Another impact rookie, SB Neebesh Elliott, added a pair of receiving TDs, while WR Bill Starke scored the final TD of the game on an 80-yard catch-and-run up the seam.
A huge shoutout goes to the war daddies on the offensive line. Battling incredibly hot conditions on the turf, Ethan Kalra, Alex Ross, Brendan Dilworth, Sam Ashton, Alastair Binnendyk, and Dutch Smith controlled the line of scrimmage for the entire afternoon. Kicker Andrew Boland was a perfect 6-6 on convert attempts.
Defensively, the Saints swarmed the Mustangs’ attack throughout the game. LBs Will Abbott and Christian MacDougall played sideline to sideline. Impact newcomer DEs Jason Grenier and Andrew Scott wreaked havoc in the backfield, while the aforementioned group of war daddies dominated inside as part of the defensive tackle rotation. The Saints secondary, led by boundary CB Brandon Kim and newcomer at safety D’Arcy Tawaststjerna, completely neutralized the Mustangs’ passing game.
Next up for the Saints is Homecoming this Saturday against St. Michael’s College. The boys are excited to renew our longstanding rivalry with the great Kerry Blues’ program in front of the entire Andrean community. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
