On behalf of the entire St. Andrew’s College community, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to the 34th Annual MacPherson Hockey Tournament.
Since its inception in 1984, this tournament has become a highly-anticipated tradition for our school and the larger community. The La Brier Family Arena opened on campus in 2014, and the murals, photos, and artwork on the walls celebrate and pay homage to our School’s long sporting history.
As a coach, player, and avid fan, I always look forward to watching the fast-paced and competitive games in this tournament.
This weekend, we are excited to welcome teams from select high-school hockey programs in Canada and the United States. The eight teams represent the provinces of Alberta, Ontario, and Québec, and the states of Maine, New York, and Pennsylvania. On the rosters are some of the most talented players in high school hockey, and I expect the competition will be intense. Over the years, many of the young athletes who have played in this tournament have gone on to university, junior, or professional levels.
Let us always remember, however, that sportsman-like conduct and respect for one’s opponent make winners of us all. Competition and camaraderie are truly what the MacPherson Tournament is about. As SAC’s mission states: “Quit ye like men, be strong.”
Good luck to all this weekend!
