The St. Andrew's College 1st Soccer Team opened league play in convincing fashion, out-scoring the opposition 11-1 to climb to the top of the CISAA standings after the first week of action.
Ali Abubakar Gharib '22 (pictured), scored five of SAC's 11 goals this weekend, including a Saturday hat-trick in a 6-1 win over visiting Ridley College. The young Kenyan had a dominant start on the pitch, with his third goal wowing the crowd as he waltzed past three defenders and then the goalkeeper, before walking the ball into the open net.
Along with Gharib’s three goals against Ridley, it was Ian Hilgendorff ’21, Ryan Purdy ’21, and Alejandro Guraieb ‘20 who added singles.
The Saints opened their week on the road on Wednesday, where they dominated the ball and topped De La Salle College 5-0. Gharib scored twice, with Hilgendorff, Geoffrey Ogenrwot ’21 and Mark Hillier ’20 also getting on the score sheet. SAC goalkeepers Ronan Woodroffe ’22 and Zishan Tejpar ’21 shared the shutout.
The SAC First Team is home for a pair of matches this week, including a Homecoming Saturday showdown with visiting Lansing Catholic (MI).
