Strong effort from U16 Saints against Crestwood Prep
The U16 Basketball Saints travelled down to Crestwood Prep for their CISAA semi-final game against the first place Crestwood team.
The Saints knew exactly what they needed to do in order to stop Crestwood’s high-powered offence. Their game plan focused on not turning over the basketball to give them easy opportunities and stopping their outside shooting and force them into tough contested two-pointers in the paint.
Through the first three minutes of play, the Saints fell behind 18-1 for Crestwood. Yes, they scored 18 points in just over three minutes. After a time out, the Saints regrouped and executed their game plan to finish out the quarter on an 8-5 run.
The second quarter saw some “Jekyll and Hyde” attributes, solid play with unbelievable enthusiasm and passion, but then a mid-quarter stretch with turnovers and ending with a 15-0 run for Crestwood. There was a moment when the boys in red could very well have packed it in, down by as much as 30. But this was not this year’s version of the Saints who kept battling with dedication and passion we closed the lead to 22 at the end of three.
In the fourth, the Saints went on another run and closed the lead to 15. The opposing coach used two timeouts and absolutely blasted his guys while we celebrated our passion to play.
It was then that perhaps the biggest highlight of our season occurred with some of our other players out on the floor getting some time, the entire team cheered on whoever was out there collectively. The spirit of the Andrean Brotherhood for the last three minutes was absolutely incredible. It might have gone down as my favourite memory of the season until...we ran a play called Low which is designed to clear out for Dana Goharchi who waved back his teammates, pulled up from ten feet beyond the arc and drained the shot. The bench went absolutely crazy! So much fun and a great show of solidarity by your Saints.
