Curling Saints split season openers against Havergal College
The Curling Saints travelled south to Leaside Curling Club in Toronto on Wednesday, Dec. 5, for their season-opening games against Havergal College.
Our Boys Division team took a couple of ends to get used to the speed of the ice. Skip William Le Boeuf and his team earned a point in the first end, but the Havergal squad came back with a total of five points in the second and third ends. Lead John Hou and Vice Mike Chen threw some very good draws and take-outs to challenge Havergal in the house, and Second Axel Ravera proved himself the most energetic sweeper on the sheet.
In the eighth end, a tie game was still possible right up until a Havergal take-out shot with the second-last stone. It proved to be a good game against a very experienced Havergal team.
The Open Division team started their game off confidently with seven points in the first three ends. Skip Nova Schmidt controlled the pace of the game, limiting Havergal to only a single point in two of the final three ends while keeping the game competitive. Lead Eddie Hao and Second Colby Jackson placed good guards and draws into the house, and Vice Nick Cruickshanks delivered good stones and offered strategic advice in the house.
