At St. Andrew’s, we believe that university decision-making is an individual student’s responsibility.
To that end, it is our role to guide, counsel, recommend, refer, suggest and inform in a way that ultimately finds each student’s best fit. We know that each boy has a different story to tell, both as the process begins, and as it reaches its conclusion here. Some boys seek our assistance daily, others we see weekly and still others know and manage to decide independently. Our guiding principle is to start where the student is. We hope that he reaches a point where, through experience and reflection, he will know who he is and be able to be true to that.
We see our role as facilitating and not always doing. We encourage parents, teachers, coaches and other adults in the world of the St. Andrew’s graduate to follow suit. We are interested in seeing the development of our graduates’ road to adulthood and independence, a path without which he is not ready to take on and prosper in the university milieu. Our record of success is a testament to the relevance of the school’s mission, to the work of each student, and to the ongoing efforts of the university counseling team in providing a comprehensive and customized service.
